Trivium Racing has the honor of having one of the best pool swim triathlons around in our 2017 Multisport Series. The Valdese Triathlon will act as race #3 and the first Triathlon of our 2017 season!  This race is an awesome opportunity for both the seasoned veteran and the new triathlete to get their feet wet!

The Valdese Tri is a home town race with home town treatment. The whole community comes out to cheer you on and make your day unforgettable. It’s a short sprint distance race with a pool swim. Over its 12 year span, the Valdese Tri has introduced hundreds of people to the sport of Triathlon in a safe, warm, welcoming environment.

Parking

All participants will park in various parking lots and spaces around the swim center. Please follow the directions of parking volunteers on event morning.

Schedule of Events

Packet Pick Up/Race Day Registration will be Friday April 8, 2016 from 5pm-7-pm and Saturday April 9, 2016 from 7am-8:30am at the Valdese Aquatic Center (race site)

 Event Start Time: 9:00AM Saturday April 8, 2017

Arrival Time:

Arrive at the Valdese Aquatic Center no later than 8:00 AM as all bikes must be in the transition area by 8:50 AM. The TA will close at 8:50 AM and no one will be allowed to place bikes inside after this time. Also, race day packet pickup will end at 8:45 AM. Chip Pick-Up and Body Marking will end at 8:45 AM.

Swim Start Times:

Swim start times will be based on your estimated 100 meter swim time entered on your registration form. Every participant should be in the pool area by 8:50am for a pre-race meeting and to line up for the swim start. Swim start times and order for all pre-registered athletes will be posted at packet pick-up on Friday night as well as on Race Day. Any athlete registering on Friday night or Saturday morning will be seeded to the end of the swim start times.

Body Marking:

All participants must be marked at the body marking area – located in the gym area. Body marking will begin at 7:30 AM in the gym behind registration.

Pre-Event Instructions/Meeting:

Important information and instructions will be given on Friday evening at 7:00 PM at the Valdese Aquatic Center. Please plan to attend this meeting. This is a good opportunity to communicate important information and any last minute changes that may be necessary.

Transition Area:

Regardless of when you start the event – you must have your bike and equipment in the transition area before 8:45 AM.The transition area will close at 8:45 AM. If you arrive after that time, you will not be allowed to place your equipment in the transition area.

Awards

Award presentations will begin immediately after the last finisher completes the event (estimated to be 11:45 AM). You must be present to collect your award, or have someone get it for you. Awards WILL NOT be mailed out.

Course Maps

    Bike Course:

    • The bike course is a 9.5 mile out and back lollipop design. 
    • The course will be marked with green arrows on the pavement and red directional signs.
    • No drafting! Draft marshals on motorcycles will be present on the course. Don’t get caught drafting or blocking. If you aren’t familiar with USAT rules on drafting and blocking, ask one of your fellow competitors prior to the event or go to the USAT web site at www.usatriathlon.org
    • Hard shell helmets must be worn. 
    • Helmets must be fastened before leaving the transition area. 
    • Stay to the right to allow faster cyclists to pass on the left. 
    • No headphones, earphones or any radio-type devices will be allowed. (2 minute penalty) 
    • There are plenty of volunteers and police officers along the course but it is your responsibility to know the course.
    • Cyclists will be riding in the left hand lane for the stretch along Drexel Rd. That lane will be closed to oncoming traffic.

    Run Course:

    The course is an out and back design. 

    The course will be well marked. NOTE: There is only one turn on the run course. Upon exiting the Transition Area you will make a left and then head straight out until the turn around point. Volunteers will be at this point to insure you turn around.

    The course will be closed to traffic. 

    -You must wear the run bib number in front (with the pull tag) that is provided. 

    If you do not have your run bib number clearly displayed on your front as you cross the finish line – you will be assessed a two-minute penalty.

    -Water stations will be located at the beginning of the run, and then at the mile marker on the run course (marked on the road in green).  You will be able to use the water station on the way our and on the back.

    No headphones, earphones or any radio-type devices will be allowed. (2 minute penalty)

Rules & Guidelines

In the event the race should be canceled for reasons beyond the control of the Race Director or Race Committee (inclement weather or unsafe weather conditions; local, state or national emergency), refunds will not be made, but race packets, including race shirts, will be available at a location to be determined. Information will be available on the race website.

Refund Policy: No refunds for any reason will be issued for this event within 30 days of the event start date. Earlier than 30 days before the event, a request may be made for a 50% refund (this will be 50% of entry fee, excluding any processing fees). Entries CANNOT be transferred or deferred to another event or year. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made to this policy. By registering for this event you agree to this refund policy. Transfer policy: Entries can be transferred to another individual for a $5 transfer fee. T-shirt size will not be changeable. Entries CANNOT be transferred or deferred to another event or year.
