Michigan Club Challenges

To fuel your naturally competitive nature, we have Club Challenges for all of our events! So if you think your running (or other athletic) club, company or group can beat all the others in Michigan, step up to the plate – or starting line, as it were – to take on the challenges. Earn points for finishing, volunteering, and earn even more points for finishing top Overall or in your Age Group!

Here’s how it works:

  1. When you register for any of our events, join your club/team.  Don’t see it listed?  Create it!
  2. Each individual race will be scored by the Wednesday following the race and winners will be announced by email and social media. Scoring details below.
    • The club with the most points at the race will receive a prize at the next race in the series.
    • All runners must be added to the club by the start of the race.  Late additions will not be counted.  Information on how to add yourself to a club may be found here.
  3. Winners of the individual race club competition will earn points for the Overall Club series. Scoring details below.
    • At the end of the year we will announce the winning team of the Overall series and host a party to award them the Club Cup, which they will get to display proudly throughout the year.
  4. The next year, the challenge starts all over again!

What’s a club?  Just a group of people running together!  You don’t have to have an official club to participate in the Club Cup competition.  No fancy shirts or website?  No problem!  Run clubs, triathlon clubs, fitness groups, social clubs, corporate teams, high school cross country teams, or groups of family/friends/coworkers – all clubs are welcome!

Individual Race Club Competition Point Scoring:

  • Every runner will earn 1 point for their team for completing the race. This means the more runners each group brings out, the more points they score!
  • Volunteers will earn your club/team 5 participation points.  Even if you are unable to run, you are an important part of the club and to any race event.
  • Age Group points will be determined by each individuals place within their age group (overall finishers will be scored within their age group for points)
    • 1st place in age group = 20
    • 2nd place in age group = 18
    • 3rd place in age group = 15
    • 4th place in age group = 14
    • 5th place in age group = 13
    • 6th place in age group = 10
    • 7th place in age group = 9
    • 8th place in age group = 8
    • 9th place in age group = 7
    • 10th place in age group = 6
    • 11th – 15th place in age group = 5
    • 16th – 20th place in age group = 2
  • If you are an overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd) of the event, you will earn double points meaning if you win the overall 5k, you will earn 40 points. (1st in age group that is then doubled).
  • For events that have two distances, the longer distance will receive double the regular points.
    • You get 5th place in your age group for the half marathon, you will receive 26 points but if you are in 5th place in your age group for the 5 mile, you will receive 13 points.
  • For events that have three distances, the longer distance will receive double the regular points and the middle distance race will earn 1.5 the regular points.
  • For events that have four distances, the longest distance will receive 2.5x the regular points.
  • For events with fewer overall participation numbers, i.e. ruck and duathlon at a triathlon event, the event will receive half the regular points.
  • In the event of a tie, all tied teams receive the same place, and the next placement is determined by the number of teams ahead of them. For example, if three teams tie for first, all three teams are scored in first place, and the next team is scored in fourth place.

Overall season leaderboard points are awarded based on those placements. In this example, each of the three teams tied for first would receive 500 points, and the fourth-place team would receive the 350 points awarded for fourth place.

  • Ruck events are scored by Overall gender, not Age Group, just as they’re scored for the event.  We score first through 20th place.  We don’t double for winning.
  • On the Thursday following the race, the individual race club ranking will be posted.

Overall Season Club Competition Point Scoring:

  • Standardized points from individual races will be awarded to all club/teams for the Overall Club Cup.
    • Points will start at 500 for first place and decrease by 50 points for each placement. (1st = 500, 2nd = 450, 3rd = 400, etc.)
    • Clubs placing 11 – 20 will receive 25 points.
    • Club placing 21 and up will receive 10 points.
  • Examples: Club A receives the most individual points (as scored above) for Prove It.  They will receive 500 points for the Overall series.  They then place 11th at Trenton Summerfest which will award them 25 points.
  • Specific races will be awarded double points, i.e. instead of winning 500 points for the overall series the club/team will earn 1,000 points.
