Multisport News:
Standings: The season is about halfway through as we start heading into our outdoor swim portion of the season. Six races in and we already have more participants and a closer race to the championship than in previous years. Remember that all winners of their respective 10 year age groups will get awards at the end of season party, and the overall champions will race FREE for life!
In the overall male category, last year’s champion, Glenn Cook, has taken a early season lead. We will see if his monster bike splits can sustain him through the longer outdoor swim events. David Gile has already taken home some hardware this multisport season as well and is sitting in second place with William Gibins and Hammer Nutrition’s Matt Sommer rounding out the top four. This is still anyone’s season, but June 11th could start giving us some clarity to the who the leader is with our double multisport race day at Lake Brandt Marina!
On the women’s side, there seems to be a Triangle Takeover happening. Three of the top five women hail from the Triangle area. Kimberly Jones has looked solid in two duathlons so far this year, finishing fourth and first overall at those two events and is in a position to be the new Trivium Multisport Series Champion if she can carry her performance over to the triathlon side. Last year’s second place series finisher, Amelia Shea, moved back into second place with her overall win at The All-America City Sprint Triathlon in May. Only 100 points down, she could take the overall lead by mid June with a good finish. The rest of the top five will need to put in some pool time to claim the top prize as they have only competed in duathlons so far this season. Just outside the top five, local triathlete and swimming star, Cary Maycock, will begin her assault on the top spots as the races get longer and the swim becomes more of a factor.

Upcoming Events:
The Lake Brandt Sprint Triathlon is a 800 meter swim, 12.5 mile road bike, and 3.25 mile road run triathlon. This event will take place on June 11th, at 7:30 AM. This is a great first-timers triathlon and, in its second year, it will act as the 7th race, and first open water swim of the Trivium Multisport Series. Oh, and don’t forget the best part – you could win homemade strawberry jam if you place in your age group!
This is the third year that Trivium has taken multisport off-road in the Triad and the second year that we have teamed up with the national XTERRA series. The race will take place on June 11th in the afternoon. This means, if you’re motivated enough, you can race in both a road and a trail triathlon on the same day! The 800 meter swim will take place at Lake Brandt Marina, the 14 mile mountain bike ride will use some of the most famous and well groomed Greensboro trails around the lake, and the event will finish with 3.1 miles on Nathaniel Greene Trail. If you want to try something a bit different, this is the event for you!
