Growler Gallop Atwater

About

After our recent success with a few in-person events, we regret to inform you that the 2020 Growler Gallop will have to go fully virtual for 2020.  The city and Belle Isle Park are dealing with several issues, both Covid related and unrelated, and cannot support a large event at this time. We have worked through several alternative plans with all parties involved including the City of Detroit, Michigan State Parks, Wayne County, the UAW, MDOT, Atwater Brewery and others, but with current restrictions, there is no safe way to conduct this event in person at this time. 

Athletes are invited to race virtually on our designated courses (5k or 10 mile) starting and finish at Atwater Brewery, or will have the option to race from anywhere. Both options are avaialbe through the RaceJoy GPS tracking app that is being provided for this race. Participants will have the opportunity to pick up their hoodie, medal and bib at multiple locations and times before and after the scheduled race day. They will also get a ticket for an Atwater Beer on us using their bib (beer tickets can be redeemed anytime between September 25th and October 27th).  Athletes who complete the race virtually downtown doing the course we provide will be in the running for awards. Awards will be something different than our usual growlers this years. Awards will be shipped after finish times are verified. Athletes can run the designated course between September 25th and October 4th. 

The Growler Gallop is a 10 mile and 5K race starting and finish at The Famous Atwater Brewery in Downtown Detroit! The 10 mile course will take you along the riverwalk and around Bell Isle, while the 5K will use the riverwalk and loop back around just before the bridge to Belle Isle.  We will have great live music, medals, food, and beer for all participants. The best part is that we have the most coveted awards around, Growlers of Atwater Beer!! To all the fast ones out there you will have a chance to win our Cash Prizes and Kegs!

Finishers Medal: This race is the 6th  race in the 7 Mega Medal series of 2020!  All 7 medals will connect to make one giant Mega Medal!  This race will be a part of the Trivium Mega Medal as well as a part of the Trivium Individual Race Series and the Club Cup Race Series!  The medals together will form a daisy for this years race. And keeping with the natural vintage theme, the 6 petal medals will be made of wood. The big medallion medal in the middle (Growler Gallop 10 Mile and 5K) will be made of metal and will have connection spots for each of the other race medals! The Growler Gallop Medal will also double as a bottle opener!

Parking

Parking will be available in the lot at the end of Jos Campau at the Riverwalk or on any of the surrounding neighborhood roads. Please do not park on the course as it makes it unsafe for athletes. Roads that will not be available for parking are Franklin between Chene and Adair and Joseph Campau, Adair, and Mt Elliot south of Jefferson.

NOTE: Please leave extra time to park, and make your way to the starting line. The race is not responsible for any valuables you leave in your vehicle. Please make sure that you secure your belongings and keep them out of site for safety.

Packet Pickup

We will be at Atwater Brewery ( 237 Jos Campau, Detroit, MI 48207 ) –

  • September 25th from 3:00 pm – 6:30 pm
  • September 26th from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

We are working on a secondary location for packet pick up after the 26th.

Given the current situation with USPS and other shipping providers, we highly suggest picking up your packet in person (or have a friend/family member pick it up for you)! If it is not possible for you to pick up, please contact us about shipping no later than September 26th.

Virtual Race Day – Friday, Sept 25th through Sunday, October 4th

  • Run your race at your own time! Don’t forget to submit your results online by October 4th.

Rules & Guidelines

In the event the race should be canceled for reasons beyond the control of the Race Director or Race Committee (inclement weather or unsafe weather conditions; local, state or national emergency), refunds will not be made, but race packets, including race shirts, will be available at a location to be determined. Information will be available on the race website.

Refund Policy: No refunds for any reason will be issued for this event within 30 days of the event start date. Earlier than 30 days before the event, a request may be made for a 50% refund (this will be 50% of entry fee, excluding any processing fees). Entries CANNOT be transferred or deferred to another event or year. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made to this policy. By registering for this event you agree to this refund policy. Transfer policy: Entries can be transferred to another individual for a $5 transfer fee. T-shirt size will not be changeable. Entries CANNOT be transferred or deferred to another event or year.
