Belews Lake Olympic and Sprint Triathlon

About

Race Update: (2/16/21) We are confident that this event will be able to take place.   We are working on race plans for a Covid safe, live event.  As we get closer to race day we will continue to update athletes.  As we continue to work with local officials and the marina please click here to see what steps may be taken to make sure this race takes place and our Covid date if necessary.  While we cannot predict what April will look like in terms of the current pandemic, we are committed to doing everything we can to host a live event.  Please make sure you are aware of our refund policy (found both on the registration page and under our rules page) prior to signing up.  We hope to see everyone in April!

This race has us more excited than most this year, mainly because this was the first event Richard competed in when we moved down to North Carolina over a dozen years ago!  Benji and Hope at Jones Racing have created an amazing event at Belews Lake and we are excited to be taking the torch and continuing the tradition in 2021! Things will look very much as they have in previous years with this event, and that is a great thing!  We will have both an Olympic and a Sprint distance event, and the race will be a time trial start.  The date move to late April will allow for warmer waters, but still pleasant air temps for the run portion of the race.  It also fits in perfectly with our Multisport Race Series giving us events every month from February through October!

Olympic: 1500 Meter Swim – 27 Mile Bike – 10 Kilometer Run

Sprint: 750 Meter Swim – 14.5 Mile Bike – 5 Kilometer Run

Course Maps

    International Distance Course Maps:

We will be updating these in January, but the courses will remain the same as Jones Racing has had in previous years:

Swim: Belews Lake is a very popular lake in the Winston-Salem / Greensboro area. It is a great lake to swim in – clear water with a sandy bottom. This is an in-water start with participants lining up at the boat launch. Waves and chop are light and water quality is excellent. The swim course is a triangular-shaped course. Participants exit the water at the end of the boat launch and run about 50 yards to the transition area. All participants must submit a 100 yard swim time for starting positioning purposes. Participants will be placed from fastest to slowest. Submitting a time that is too fast for you puts you up with swimmers who will be passing you during the swim – not good for you or them. Putting a time that is too slow places you with slower swimmers and forces you to have to pass everyone. Swim caps will be provided. Swim caps are mandatory, as this is a safety issue. Our lifeguards and water safety need to be able to see everyone in the water. If you wait to register until packet pick up, then you will be seeded at the back of the swim. Just keep that in mind as you decide to wait.

Bike: The bike course is a two loop course on smooth, rural country roads. The course has a few challenging hills. Athletes are certain to enjoy this scenic and challenging bike route. Police and volunteers man each intersection and turns are marked with directional signs.

Run: The two loop run course. The run consist of rolling hills and provides a great view of Belews Lake. 100% of the course is run on smooth roads. Aid stations are positioned every 1 mile.
