Introducing our 2020 Blackbeard’s Revenge Ambassadors

In March 2019, we put on our first Blackbeard’s Revenge 100, an ultramarathon event along North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Racers could choose between the 100 mile, 100k, and 100 mile relay events.

It was such a special weekend, we knew we had to bring the event back in 2020. We also knew we wanted to share the magic of the Outer Banks with more of you. This was the perfect opportunity to launch our first ever ambassador program. It’s our pleasure to introduce Blackbeard’s Revenge and Trivium Racing’s inaugural ambassador team!

Ian Brandt

  • Location: Lancaster, PA
  • Blackbeard’s Revenge Race Distance: 100 mile

Ian started running seriously about 5 years ago. This year, he completed a marathon and 6 half marathons (including our very own End of the Road Half Marathon on the Abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike!). One of Ian’s goals is to crack 2:00 for 13.1 miles — with a current personal best of 2:01:00, he’s getting dangerously close!

Ian has played ice hockey nearly his entire life, and he even used to work at an ice rink driving the Zamboni. Ian says Blackbeard’s Revenge “will be my first ultra, and I’m super excited and scared out of my mind at the same time.”

Erik Farinas

  • Location: Millsboro, DE
  • Race Distance: 100 mile

This Delaware native has completed 7 Ironman triathlons, more than 15 marathons, and several 50Ks and 50 milers. His longest run to date is 82 miles. We can’t wait to crank that number up to 100 miles next March.

Erik has worked as a probation/parole officer for the State of Delaware for 20 years. He’s also a huge sports fan and poker player.  He even put his sports knowledge to the test as a contest on Sports Jeopardy!

Suzy Goodwin

  •  Location: Fayetteville, NC
  • Race Distance: 100 mile

Suzy is a military spouse, podcast host, triplet mom, and former Guinness World Record holder for fastest 13.1 miles while pushing three children in a stroller.

She’s completed over 50 marathons, some 50 milers, and a 100k. Blackbeard’s Revenge will be Suzy’s first 100 mile race! She’s excited to chase this goal in her home state,  where she spent many childhood summers vacationing in the Outer Banks.

Ed McKeown

  • Location: Roanoke, VA
  • Next Race TBD

Ed is an account executive for the trucking company R+L Carriers. While he grew up in North Carolina, he’s been a Roanoke resident for the last 15 years. He has completed an estimated 15 ultramarathons, and enjoys running and hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Ed is primarily a trail runner, and he says, “Not all road races appeal to me, but this one does, with it being in the Outer Banks.” One of Ed’s most beloved training partners is his dog, Abby. Ed is unfortunately sidelined with an injury and can no longer join us for the 2020 Blackbeard’s Revenge 100, but we wish him a smooth and speedy recovery!

Tim Preble

  • Location: Cleveland, TN
  • Race Distance: 100 mile

Tim is a backend database developer living in the Tennessee Valley area with his wife of nearly 20 years. Depressed and overweight after a broken foot in 2008 and spine surgery in 2009, Tim was told he would never run again.

He says, “Now I am an ultramarathoner with a passion for community, giving back to others, and encouraging everyone to live a healthier lifestyle. I also love to crew and pace others as they try to reach their running goals.” This father of 3 and grandfather of 2 even has the course record for a 367 mile race!

Tim is excited to share the beauty and ruthlessness of the Outer Banks with others. He says, “The race course that Blackbeard’s Revenge covers is one of my most favorite and most detested areas in the country. The dynamics of running a flat, point-to-point 100 miles on pavement is very difficult physically and logistically, and I love the challenge of it all!”

Shawn Wussow

  • Location: Fayetteville, NC
  • Race Distance: 100 mile

Shawn is retired from the U.S. Army, and still works for them as a civilian. This North Carolina native completed his first 100 mile race last year, as well as events from the 5k up to the 378 mile (you read that correctly — 378!). Shawn also competed in the inaugural Blackbeard’s Revenge 100 in March 2019.

Shawn started running in 2009. He says, “Never in my life did I think I would run more than a half marathon. I never take any race for granted each time I toe the starting line.”  As an ambassador, Shawn received a complimentary race entry, which he decided to gift to a friend, because “it would mean a lot to him.”

“That is what I love about ultra running,” Shawn says. “Thanks for the opportunity to spread the love.”
